Information for those interested in joining our research team

Thank you for your interest in the IMPACT-AI Lab and in the rewarding experience of doing research together. Our lab is committed to fostering a welcoming, collaborative, and respectful environment where all voices are heard and valued.

I actively encourage applications from students who identify with groups that have been historically underrepresented in the fields of artificial intelligence and health research. This includes, though is not limited to, women, Indigenous students, Black and other racialized individuals, people with disabilities, and members of LGBTQ2S+ communities.

The lab is housed in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at York University in Toronto, and works closely with healthcare partners such as the University Health Network. We focus on developing and applying cutting-edge AI methods to drive equitable, high-impact solutions in healthcare.

Due to appointments at both York university and Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, I invite applications from both institutes.

We are currently looking for students interested in exploring research topics such as:

  • Reinforcement learning for personalized clinical decision-making
  • Generative AI
  • Multimodal Integrative AI modeling
  • Foundation models and Agentic AI for clinical reasoning
  • Applications in Mental Health, Liver diseases, Osteoarthritis, Cancer, Genomics

    Review Process

    I will review your materials and contact shortlisted applicants for an interview. Due to the volume of applications, I may only respond to those selected for further consideration. I appreciate your understanding.

    If there is a strong match, you will be invited to submit a formal application to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics via the Faculty of Graduate Studies application portal. Your referees will then be asked to submit letters of recommendation.

    Applications are welcome year-round. Early contact is encouraged for scholarship consideration and planning.
